The 50s Fashion in France

At Musée Galliera

After the Second World War, in February 1947, the first collection of Christian Dior revolutionized fashion codes and femininity. A new figure was created, the "New Look", which will mark the aesthetics of the 50s with flowing skirts below the knee, cinched waists, high breasts and hemline shoulders.

With Balenciaga, Fath, Balmain, Givenchy, Cardin, Chanel..., the 50s were a golden age for the Parisian haute couture.

From July 12th to November 09th, 2014, Musée Galliera relates you the evolution of the "New Look" figure declined until 1957. The exhibition attaches a great importance to one innovation of the 50s: the ready-to-wear. It is indeed during this decade that the fashion of designers becomes available to everybody.

The exhibition sheds light on the excitement that the fashion industry has known. The fashion was one of the most important economic areas in France during this period.
